QUDI 2008-09
The Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging (QUDI) Program is of vital importance to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (the RANZCR). It has provided the evidence base to drive a number of major reforms in medical imaging.
QUDI projects aim to improve the way radiology services are provided to consumers and health professionals. Project outcomes are used to inform the RANZCR Standards of Practice for accreditation, the RANZCR radiology training curriculum and many RANZCR policies.
2008-09 Projects:
CT Dose optimisation Quality Improvement Activity: Aimed to reduce the exposure of patients to radiation in computed tomography (CT) examinations through a practice-based quality improvement activity (QIA).
The Diagnostic imaging reporting guidelines project aimed to develop clear recommendations and guidance about the most effective way to communicate radiology results. The guidance was drawn from a systematic review of the literature and a survey of general practitioners and radiologists..
The Radiology Events Register is a database that collates and supports analysis of adverse events and near misses in radiology. The ultimate aim is to provide evidence to support improvements in radiology practice.
The Critically Appraised Topics (CATs) project aimed to provide training in evidence based practice about how to critically appraise medical literature. It aimed to support the introduction of evidence based medicine and critical appraisal of literature into the RANZCR’s new radiology training curriculum.
Referral forms
The RANZCR, through the Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging (QUDI) program, has developed a standard set of diagnostic imaging referral forms, which aim to improve the quality of communication between referrers and providers of diagnostic imaging services. These forms are available on request from the QUDI Program.
See also the QUDI project archive for previously completed QUDI projects.
