About InsideRadiology

The aim of the InsideRadiology website is to provide consumers (patients, carers, potential users of radiology) and referrers (general practitioners, specialists and other health professionals) with accurate, up to date information about radiology procedures and interventions that is easy to use and understand.

The radiology procedures and interventions on the website have been chosen because they represent the more commonly used radiology procedures and those of particular interest to consumers and referrers.

A previous QUDI project commissioned in 2006 to investigate consumer awareness of radiology procedures identified that consumers wanted to have more information about procedures for which they were being referred. Consumers wanted this information from a reliable and credible source and preferred a question and answer format. It was also found that anxiety is lessened and better managed by patients referred for radiology procedures if they have prior knowledge of the procedure.

InsideRadiology provides information items that have been written by radiologists or other health professionals who are experts in their field. The items have then been edited by a team of specialised consumer writers to ensure they have been made as easy to understand by health consumers, patients and carers as possible.

The methodology noted below has been endorsed by the Council of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists as being appropriate for the development of consumer information material. In addition, all the information material has been approved for publication by a specially convened editorial panel made up of expert radiologists and consumer writers.
